Deepreach

Nestled at the northern end of a deep bay, surrounded by mountains to east and west, and with a swift river flowing through its centre, Deepreach has recovered from the Summer of Blood as well as any town along the coast.
In large part, this is due to earlier misfortunes to befall the town. A necromancer had been experimenting in the hills to the east, and things both foul and evil had begun to emerge from
the woods.
Despairing, the town council had hired a mercenary company, along with a small team of specialists to locate the mage, end his experiments and destroy their results. Unfortunately, they underestimated quite how many creatures had been raised from death, and soon swelled the ranks of the enemy.
The few scattered survivors paused long enough to warn of an impending flood of zombies, wights and skeletons before fleeing north to Korhaven. The council, rather than flee or watch the town destroyed, made the decision to take advantage of the drought at the time, and upon the armies approach, set fire to the woods. Militiamen, sailors, and bakers alike teamed up to destroy the charred remnants that staggered from the flames, not without cost, but saving the town in the process.
Already mobilised, when word came of a pirate flotilla sailing up the reach toward the town, the locals stood and fought, driving the pirates to seek easier prey.
In the aftermath, refugees from fallen villages came north, intending to travel onwards from Deepreach, only to realise that large tracts of land to the east were freshly cleared, and ripe for settling…
In less than three months, the towns population almost doubled, and the council haven’t looked back. There is now a standing force of troops, patrolling and guarding the area, and adventurers willing to help out with any threats receive a warmer welcome than many are used to.
